Part of our ongoing volunteer work is aimed at gradually improving the car park area.
So far (Autumn 2011) we have:
Worked with British Waterways to install the tunnel car park signpost;
Made lowering the roadside hedge an annual task (it will soon be lowered to the level of the adjacent fence)
Used a digger to scrape the edges of the car park back to reveal the original boundary line; This has made the car park much bigger;
Bunded the far end of the car park to improve safety;
Litter picked as and when needed;
Next?
Discuss with British Waterways the possibility of:-
Installing a wooden safety barrier between the edge of the car park and the tunnel slope;
Thinning the vegetation on the grass bank between the car park and the tunnel slope;
Replanting as needed;
Replacing the wooden edging around the car park boundary;
Planting a ‘jubilee oak’ in the vicinity to celebrate 2012;
